These two musical collaborators of 20+ years reunite for one very special duo concert, in one of Tristan’s all time favorite acoustic rooms, following a rare Crooked Still appearance…
With more than half their lives in bands together and playing tunes all day and night at music camps, these two have developed uncanny musical mind-reading skills and a shared musical vocabulary; an alchemic improvisational interplay that’s conversational through the years.
Brittany Haas and Tristan Clarridge were born in the same year in the same state--California. They grew up in parallel, with their string-playing older sisters, inspired by many of the same musical mentors, immersed in old-time, bluegrass, Celtic and new-acoustic music.
They were both touring members of Darol Anger's seminal group The Republic of Strings. In 2007, they joined folk-pop sensation Crooked Still, with whom they toured the world and released four critically acclaimed records. Tristan grew up in a tipi, practicing Bach and Texas old-time fiddling since the age of 2. A 5-time Grand National Fiddle Championship and cellist with chambergrass trio The Bee Eaters, he has also toured and recorded with Jeremy Kittel, Hanneke Cassel, Laurie Lewis, Bruce Molsky, Natalie MacMaster, Abigail Washburn, and Sean Watkins (of Nickel Creek), and is co-founder of the Shasta Music Summit. Brittany began touring and recording with her mentors Darol Anger and Bruce Molsky at age 13, releasing her debut album at 17. She has formed many acoustic collaborations such as her trio Hawktail as well as working as a "side man" in such prestigious groups as the Dave Rawlings Machine featuring Gilliian Welch and A Prairie Home Companion house band hosted by Chris Thile. Brittany is currently involved in many exciting bands and collaborations including Hawktail, Punch Brothers, Aoife O’Donovan, Väsen, a duo with her cellist sister Natalie Haas and a duo with Swedish fiddler Lena Jonsson.

Cantrip in Concert
The name Cantrip is an Old Scots word meaning a charm, magic spell or piece of mischief and it aptly describes the unexpected twists and turns in their musical arrangements, likewise the compelling potency of their musicianship. Swirling border pipes, raging fiddle, thunderous guitar and three rich voices blend to create a sound energetic enough to tear the roof off. After 24 years of touring, Cantrip has found a character like no other. Echoes can be heard of trad music from the 1960s and 70s, but the years have slowly infested their music with the sounds of funk, metal, bluegrass, swing, and even klezmer. Dan Houghton, Jon Bews, Alasdair White, and Eric McDonald stir the elements in a witches’ cauldron, slowly coalescing into chaotic order.
"Their music comes from wild landscapes and wild places of the spirit." -- The Orcadian

Concert: Keith Murphy and Anand Nayak
Tuesday, June 18, 7:30 PM
For many years, Keith Murphy has been forging a distinctive sound in the world of traditional song. He grew up surrounded by the rich tradition of his native Newfoundland and over the course of his later travels has incorporated elements of many other traditions including the repertoire of his adopted home in Vermont. He is a noted instrumentalist and well known for his playing with Nightingale, Childsplay, Boston Revels, Tony Barrand, Hanneke Cassel, Yann Falquet and his most enduring collaborator, his wife and fiddler, Becky Tracy. He is also the founder and artistic director of the Brattleboro Music Center’s Northern Roots Festival.
After three acoustic based solo recordings, Keith turned to a new instrumental line up for his most recent solo project, Bright As Amber which delicately incorporates bass, drums and electric guitar over his finger style acoustic guitar and singing of old songs. Much of this sound was developed with his core collaborator, Anand Nayak who is well known for his work with Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem and Lui Collins among many others. Anand is a Grammy nominated producer and multi-instrumentalist whose sensitive and atmospheric textures on electric guitar bring a fresh energy to Keith’s traditional songs. They are excited that their performance at Mettabee Farm will be their very first live show together in a series of album release concerts.

Mettabee Farm Harmony Singing Workshop May 18, 2024 3-4:30 pm
with Cindy Kallet, Grey Larsen, and Will Brown
Come join us for some harmony fun! We'll do some musical warm-ups and then work on getting comfortable and adventurous with harmonies to easy-to-learn songs. We may also teach you a song or two with harmony parts the three of us have previously invented. All voices and levels of experience welcome! No music-reading ability necessary.
Cindy is a superb singer, guitarist, and songwriter. Grey is one of America’s finest players of the Irish flute and tin whistle, as well as an accomplished singer and concertina, fiddle, piano and harmonium player. Will presents his stellar arrangements of songs and tunes from the Folk, Appalachian, Maritime, Celtic and Transatlantic traditions. The concert will feature solos, duos and the trio, as they join forces in dynamic harmony and instrumental delights.
Scott Alarik of The Boston Globe calls Cindy “…one of folk music’s most respected songwriters… provocative, heartwise, and original …a brilliant guitarist….” Mike Joyce of the Washington Post calls Grey “… a gifted multi-instrumentalist who consistently demonstrates his melodic finesse,” while The New Mexico Daily describes his playing as “positively spellbinding.” Cindy and Grey have also appeared with host Andrea Seabrook on National Public Radio’s “Weekend All Things Considered.”

Bio-Danz Workshop
Sunday April 28
10:00am - 5:00pm
Spend an entire day with fellow lovers of live dancing, laughing, playing and moving to music in powerful and engaging experiences of vivencia.
Come join us as we bring Biodanza dances to Mettabee Farm in Harlemville, NY.
In order to make the pricing affordable for this day-long workshop, we are suggesting a sliding scale range of between $40-$80. Please register ahead and be as generous as you are able.
In Biodanza, we use the simple and beautiful movements of everyday living, including circles, taking hands, encounters, hugs, touch, caress, witnessing, moving together in rhythm, and joy. Creating Vivencia, we’ll weave dances of simple and profound presence. We will open ourselves to passionate and blissful dialogues of sacredness, humility, and humanity; we will rediscover the joy and profound grace of being alive... together.
Note: Biodanza is not about any form of proficiency. It is a dance practice for everyone who yearns to really live - proficient dancers and people who still think they cannot dance.

Hungarian Folk Songs
Saturday April 20th
7:30pm
Adults $15 - $30 Suggested
Kids $8 - $30 Suggested
Ágról Ágra: from Branch to Branch is a unique and dynamic a cappella program of Hungarian folk songs presented in their traditional forms and as arrangements by contemporary composers Song Yi Jeon, Guillermo Klein, and Libero Canto’s own Marisa Michelson, and Sara Serpa, alongside original songs by Béla Bartók, one of Hungary’s most revered composers and folk song collectors.
Ágról Ágra is a project of the Libero Canto School of Singing. Libero Canto™ is a holistic, process-oriented approach to vocal pedagogy originally developed in Hungary in the 1930’s by Lajos Szamosi. It’s name comes from “la via al libero canto” (the path to free singing). The Libero Canto Approach helps people to release excess tension and effort, so that they can make music through singing with freedom, honesty, and joy. For more information, please visit liberocanto.org.
Libero Canto is a fiscally sponsored project of the New York Foundation for the Arts.
